This work package investigates the potential of alternative radiation generation based on laser-plasma acceleration including betatron and synchrotron radiation, as well as nonlinear Thomson scattering for practical applications.
It focuses on experimental and theoretical investigations of plasma media for plasma-based radiation sources. To push these sources towards practical applications, a number of key issues still need to be solved. These include robust schemes for electron injection control, control of the electron beam charge, energy spread, emittance, spatial-temporal profiles of the electron bunches, structure control of plasma undulators, control of radiation spectrum and spatial distributions, as well as control of the laser beam propagation. This will all be addressed within this work package.
